Specialist criminal practitioner, instructed by defence and prosecution in  cases of the utmost seriousness :  murder, manslaughter, causing death when driving, child cruelty, sexual crime, firearms offences, riot, drugs offences.  Experienced in cases of high complexity, such as commercial frauds, VAT fraud, MTIC fraud, confiscation proceedings.   A VHCC panel advocate.

Grade 4 CPS prosecutor.   Has prosecuted for the Department of Work and Pensions, and defended Health and Safety, Trading Standards and other regulatory cases.  

Described in the 2005 edition of the ‘Legal 500’ as ‘intellectually superb’,  and the 2006 edition noted ‘an impressive reputation for serious fraud defence, including carousel fraud and P.O.C.A. proceedings’.  

Notable and recent cases have included :

  • MTIC fraud alleging evasion of £21m VAT
  • tobacco importation fraud alleging evasionof £4m VAT
  • R. v. Greatrex (David Anthony)  sub nom. Bates (Jason Alan) [1999] 1 Cr.App.R. 126 (joint enterprise murder)
  • R. v. White (Andre Barrington)  (2004) 148 S.J. 300 (Rape, cross examination by accused, s.34 Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999)
  • R. v. Sellick (Santino) ([2005] EWCA Crim 651 (Murder, hearsay evidence, s116(4) Criminal Justice Act  2003)
