Trevor Meegan wins insanity trial

Sunday 12th February 2012

A man has been acquitted on the grounds of insanity following a hammer attack on his father.

The man was accused of a serious offence of wounding with intent after attacking his father with a hammer. After an initial finding of unfitness to plead, the man was eventually found fit to plead. At trial, contradictory psychiatric evidence was presented concerning the man's mental state but ultimately the trial resulted in a successful acquittal on the grounds of insanity at the time of the offence.
