Child rapist's jail term cut to encourage paedophiles to plead guilty

Thursday 16th February 2012

Alan Parker successfully argued that a nursery worker who filmed himself raping a three-year-old girl, should have his sentence reduced because he pleaded guilty.

Alan Parker represented Mr Wilson, from Nechells, Birmingham, who worked at the city’s Little Stars nursery and was jailed for life with a minimum term of 15 years in July last year after admitting two counts of rape, 16 counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, 25 counts of making indecent images of children and three of distributing such images.

Accepting defence submissions, The Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge said: "This particular defendant had given the earliest possible indication that he would plead guilty to these two counts and we are told, and we accept, that this step was taken to enable the distraught parents of the child to know that there would be no trial."

Accordingly, Mr Wilson's sentence was reduced by Lord Judge to one of life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 and a half years.
